General Pictures Around Musoma

Pictures of the Wycliffe / SIL Translation where we will be based

Welcome to the Translation Center in Musoma, Tanzania:

An additional building being built. They expect to complete it in the summer of 2011. It is behind the existing office buildings. It will provide more office space and a large training room. All the bricks are made on site.

There are 9 languages that we hope to translate. There are teams for each of them. The teams I met had a missionary linguist and several native speakers working together on the translation process.

Chi time! (or mid morning break) :-)

Lunch! We had the option to purchase lunch prepared by a Tanzania lady. It sounds like this is the typical meal. Rice, meat (in this case beef), beans, veggies, a sweet banana, and some sauce. It was very good!

Dec 21 Update

Merry Christmas! Thanks for all your prayers while I was in Tanzania, Africa. It was a great trip! I recovered from my cold and learned lots of information that will help us plan for our future transition.
I traveled to Tanzania from Dec 5 to Dec 14. It was very hot and humid in Dar es Salaam, but once I reached Musoma (at 3800 feet above sea level), it was very comfortable, probably in the mid 70’s.
As I have been thinking about moving to the other side of the world, to somewhere I have never been, it seemed like a ‘black hole’ as to what it would be like. Now, after having been there and able to take pictures and get lots of recommendations from the missionaries, it is much clearer what life will be like in Tanzania. That has definitely brought down some of the anxiety that comes with a change like this. It will still be a challenging transition, but it seems more doable now. I also had the opportunity to learn more about the position that they would like me to fill and feel comfortable that it is a good fit for me.
It was great to get to know the missionaries and their families and to meet the Tanzanian translators. They are a great group of people and God is doing amazing things through them.
Since I have been home, I created a picture book for our children about life in Tanzania. They were so excited about it that they have each taken it to school already and used it for presentations to their classes about their upcoming move.
Chris and I are continuing with our on-line training. In less than a month our whole family will be headed to the Wycliffe Headquarters in Florida for two weeks of training. Then we shift our focus to developing the financial partnerships that will support us during our remaining training and our time in Tanzania.
Another video to check out about the work going on in Tanzania:
Praises:
-          For good health and a safe trip for Keith to Tanzania and all the helpful advice from the missionaries that he met
-          For providing the financial resources for our training in January
Prayer Requests:
-          Pray for safety as our family travels to Florida and that we will make the most of our training
-          Pray for the 50 people working in the translation center in Musoma, Tanzania and for the many people that speak the 9 languages they are translating. May God continue to use his Word to transform their lives!
-          Pray that God will continue to meet our financial needs and that God would continue to strengthen our faith.
